COMMUNITY GROUPS

With your help, ASC delivered 93 holiday baskets

During December, AIDS Service Connection delivered holiday baskets to 93 people including 34 children. Initially, we thought that we had more requests than we could respond to, but then many of you responded. The outpouring of generosity from our friends in Central Ohio has been overwhelming.

Some of you sent checks. Some brought bags of toiletries, new blankets, hand-knitted caps and gloves, food, and many other wonderful gifts to share with ASC's clients. Several businesses around Columbus provided space for drop boxes for donations. In addition, ASC's workspace was filled with donations which were boxed and delivered. We want to thank all the special folks who helped make the holidays brighter, warmer, and filled with love.

past few weeks familiarizing themselves with community and HIV/AIDS contacts through the Alcohol, Drug Abuse, and Mental Health board, the Columbus Health Department, and others. They plan to start presentations and outreach services this month.

The goal of the collaborative effort is to encourage people to access primary medical care and other supportive services. The initial target population is Afri can-American men who have sex

with other men.

ASC provides Central Ohio with a comprehensive range of direct services to persons living with HIV/AIDS, their families and friends. The staff extends joy and peace to all their clients, friends and families in 1996. Happy New Year!

Compassionate cooks

and angelic hosts needed

by Ray Peterson

February 18 is a day for you to show your generous spirit and cooking skills to your friends, and their chance in turn to raise funds for Facing the AIDS Challenge Together's expanding food programs for people with AIDS. What is more rewarding than cooking a special meal for friends? It's when you are also raising funds to fill a growing need in our community.

The Wings of Life Fundraiser works this way: you invite eight (or more) friends to contribute $30 (or more) each to FACT in return for the dinner

malnutrition in the AIDS population are easily addressed with pro-active, aggressive nutritional therapy which takes into account the particular needs of people living with AIDS.

Currently FACT serves homebound meals to people with AIDS in Lakewood and Cleveland's West Side. But now that the program is being cosponsored by the AIDS Taskforce of Cleveland and the City of Lakewood, plans are under way to expand the area served by the nutritional support pro-

ary 18. At the evening's end, all the angelic hosts and guests will gather at Mather Mansion at Cleveland State University for a dessert reception and silent auction. The idea is that 100 private affairs end up being a public event and one that FACT hopes will become an annual and blessed event. Heaven knows, February in Cleveland could use a warm-hearted gathering!

Each of the guests can take the full amount as a tax deduction, and the host takes the costs of the dinner as his or her charitable contribution. The need is greater than ever. Nutrition is emerging belatedly as an important weapon in the battle against AIDS. According to the World Health Organization, nearly 80 percent of all AIDS deaths are related to malnutrition. grams. FACT's new goals are ambitious: to provide meal delivery daily for 100 people homebound with AIDS, enabling them to live independently longer; to provide 900 people with nutritious food from the Taskforce food pantry; and to continue medical transports.

The Wings of Life Fundraiser offers prizes for the host who raises the most money, the host who raises the second most and the host who comes up the most creative theme or approach to the party.

If you are interested in more details about becoming a dinner host, contact FACT coordinator Ed Magiste at 216-529-7695. He has packets of invitations and envelopes for you to send to your guests, as well as printed material describing FACT programs. We're calling all compassionate cooks and angelic hosts to sign on now!
